Top Gothic clothing is a kind of clothing that is distinguished by its dark, enigmatic, antique, and homogenous characteristics. Members of the Goth subculture are known to wear it. Dressing in gothic fashion means having dyed black hair, wearing dark lipstick, and wearing dark apparel. Goths may be identified by their thick eyeliner, dark nail lacquer - most typically black - and, on occasion, fishnet stockings. Male goths utilize cosmetics at a greater rate than other males, according to research.

The Goth Bible by Nancy Kilpatrick
In A Compendium for the Darkly Inclined, the term "poseur" refers to a person who wants to be a part of the goth scene but does not adhere to goth sensibilities. Therefore it is defined as "goth wants tobes, usually young kids going through a goth phase who do not adhere to goth sensibilities but want to be part of the goth crowd (...)." According to Kilpatrick contributor "Daoine O," "Poseur Gothics" are referred to as 'Batbabies,' whose apparel is purchased at [mall shop] Hot Topic with their parents' money."

Variations
Deathrock
Deathrock fashion, like gothic music, is intimately associated with gothic style and vice versa. The inspirations for the style stem from a combination of glam rock, punk rock, gothic horror literature, and undead figures from classic horror films, among other sources.
Haute Gothic
In 1977, Karl Lagerfeld organized the Soirée Moratoire Noir party, which required guests to wear in "tragique noire attire, which was absolutely mandatory" (tragic black dress required). The event included aspects that were connected with the leatherman's look.
Gothic Lolita
Gothic Lolita, also known as gosu Rori in Japanese, is a fusion of Gothic and Lolita trends popular today. Harajuku was the location of the fashion's inception in the late 1990s. Technique in the Gothic Lolita style is distinguished by its use of dark make-up and apparel. Classes such as red lipstick and smoky or perfectly defined eyes formed with black eyeliner are familiar. However, as with other lolita sub-styles, the overall appearance is still relatively natural-looking.
Goth Culture
Gothic traditionalism (also known as Trad Goth) is a phrase that refers to an aesthetic that represents the classic and original aesthetics of Goth that were popular in the 1980s. The following are samples of the clothing worn by Bauhaus (a band), Siouxsie Sioux, and The Cure, among others.
